Software Engineer II

ElbertTech is actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineer II (Contractor) with a strong background in developing robust software solutions for AI-driven applications. This remote position in India offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to cutting-edge machine learning systems, designing and implementing critical software components that power our next-generation AI capabilities. As a Software Engineer II, you will be instrumental in bridging the gap between advanced AI models and production-ready applications, working independently to deliver high-quality, scalable code.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently design, develop, and deliver high-quality software components and services specifically tailored to support AI/ML-enabled applications.
• Architect and implement robust APIs and backend systems, primarily utilizing Java, to facilitate seamless integration of AI capabilities into our production environments.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and fellow developers, to translate complex requirements into actionable technical solutions and deliver impactful features.
• Contribute to the optimization of model performance and ensure system latency is minimized across distributed environments, enhancing overall application efficiency.
• Actively participate in the full software development lifecycle, including contributing to robust API design and developing efficient backend systems with REST API principles.
• Engage in comprehensive code reviews, providing constructive feedback and upholding stringent coding standards to ensure code quality, maintainability, and scalability.
• Play a role in defining and improving build, deployment, and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) workflows to ensure efficient and reliable software delivery.
• Proactively investigate, diagnose, and resolve software bugs and system issues, escalating more complex problems to senior team members when necessary.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, demonstrating a strong foundation in software development principles.
• 2 to 10 years of progressive experience in software development, with a proven track record of successfully delivering software components or complete applications in a professional or project-based setting.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Go, Kotlin, or C++, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in Java for AI/ML backend services.
• Extensive hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust APIs and backend systems, including expertise with RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.
• Solid understanding and practical experience with software testing methodologies, including unit testing, integration testing, and end-to-end testing practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, taking ownership of development tasks from conception to deployment, and consistently delivering working solutions with minimal supervision.
• A strong "AI-first" mindset and familiarity with various AI tools and concepts, with a keen interest in leveraging artificial intelligence to solve complex engineering challenges.
